The original inspiration for the Album title track, 'Ulysses (Seek a Newer World)', came about after watching the four part Netflix documentary series 'Bobby Kennedy for President'.
I learnt so much from this about the capacity to love, to hope, to forgive and to dare to dream of a brighter future for all regardless of circumstance. It ended with these five lines, "The lights begin to twinkle from the rocks: The long day wanes: the slow moon climbs: the deep Moans round with many voices. Come, my friends, 'Tis not too late to seek a newer world." Upon hearing these words I immediately searched out their origin and discovered they were taken from the poem 'Ulysses' by Alfred Lord Tennyson.
Even if we feel our younger, more adventurous days are now behind us, 'Ulysses (Seek a Newer World)' invites the listener on a journey of transformative discovery, to travel onward and bring about the change we long to see...
lyrics
Ulysses (Seek a Newer World)
The lights begin to twinkle from the rocks:
The long day wanes: the slow moon climbs: the deep
Moans round with many voices.
Come, my friends,
‘Tis not too late to seek a newer world.
Come, my friends,
‘Tis not too late to seek a newer world.
and though
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
Come, my friends,
‘Tis not too late to seek a newer world.
Come, my friends,
‘Tis not too late to seek a newer world.
