Ulysses (Seek a Newer World) The lights begin to twinkle from the rocks: The long day wanes: the slow moon climbs: the deep Moans round with many voices. Come, my friends, ‘Tis not too late to seek a newer world. Come, my friends, ‘Tis not too late to seek a newer world. and though We are not now that strength which in old days Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are; One equal temper of heroic hearts, Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield. Come, my friends, ‘Tis not too late to seek a newer world. Come, my friends, ‘Tis not too late to seek a newer world.

Bird-Man 02:47
Bird-Man Spread your arms out Stretch as wide as you can Run faster and faster Become the Bird-Man Become the Bird-Man Wear your feathers well King of the Birds Utter sentences Of encouraging words Your Queen is waiting in the wings Your Songbird Queen softly sings The wind is bending All the tops of the trees Calling you skywards Beckoning you beyond the leaves Become the Bird-Man Wear your feathers well King of the Birds Utter sentences Of encouraging words Your Queen is waiting in the wings Your Songbird Queen softly sings Wear your feathers well King of the Birds Utter sentences Of encouraging words Your Queen is waiting in the wings Your Songbird Queen softly sings

Wielding Words The power of the words we wield Can easily build a hurdle Careful with your wielding words Wielding words, wielding words Raise up all that’s fallen to the ground A bruised sound splinters into pieces A sharpened tongue cuts the ones we love Wielding words, wielding words The power of the words we wield Can easily build a hurdle Careful with your wielding words A sharpened tongue cuts the ones we love

JFJ 02:45
JFJ I’m sitting at the corner table Dreaming of flight Headed toward an ecstatic sky Caught on the wind blown out of sight Playing to another empty venue below Sits a rabbit with a paw in the air sat at a piano There’s so many ideas to capture on canvas For each brush stroke to find There’s so many colours yet to see But a shortage of time I’m absorbed into the pages of A book filled reading room Where four howling dogs and a crow is backlit By the light of the Moon A dark sea rolls beneath a darker sky As Fox and Bunny dance, never questioning why? There’s so many ideas to capture on canvas For each brush stroke to find There’s so many colours yet to see But a shortage of time There’s so many ideas to capture on canvas For each brush stroke to find There’s so many colours yet to see But a shortage of time

The Pull & The Drag The pull and the drag of the ocean The push and the stab of emotion The swell of the heart igniting the spark Love like a rush an explosion The pull and the drag of the ocean The push and the stab of emotion The swell of the heart igniting the spark Love like a rush an explosion The pull and the drag of the ocean From calm and static to wild and erratic Twisting and rolling once more Pulled along dragged back down beneath To surface stronger than before From calm and static to wild and erratic Twisting and rolling once more Pulled along dragged back down beneath To surface stronger than before

"The record’s great..." - James F Johnston (PJ Harvey / Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds / Gallon Drunk)

"It is completely engaging - immersive even... everything has its place, and the whole album just works so coherently." - Rob Forrester (This Picture)

"Overall I’d give it 12/12 because I like every track." The debut Feather House Album 'Ulysses (Seek a Newer World)' was Paul Andrew Mansell's - Album of the Week - on Marlow FM 97.5

Song / Track Explainer Notes & Introductions...

The original inspiration for the Album title track, 'Ulysses (Seek a Newer World)', came about after watching the four part Netflix documentary series 'Bobby Kennedy for President'.

I learnt so much from this about the capacity to love, to hope, to forgive and to dare to dream of a brighter future for all regardless of circumstance. It ended with these five lines, "The lights begin to twinkle from the rocks: The long day wanes: the slow moon climbs: the deep Moans round with many voices. Come, my friends, 'Tis not too late to seek a newer world." Upon hearing these words I immediately searched out their origin and discovered they were taken from the poem 'Ulysses' by Alfred Lord Tennyson.

Even if we feel our younger, more adventurous days are now behind us, 'Ulysses (Seek a Newer World)' invites the listener on a journey of transformative discovery, to travel onward and bring about the change we long to see...

The song 'Bird-Man' came about after shooting the video for the Album title track 'Ulysses (Seek a Newer World)' that features Paul Andrew Mansell from Marlow FM. He comes across a box hidden in a tree in the woods that contains a 'King of the Birds' outfit and goes off in search of his 'Songbird Queen'. The video was shot by my son Jared Guy of Purple Turnip Productions...

'JFJ' is lyrically based on painting titles by the artist and musician James F Johnston (PJ Harvey / Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds / Gallon Drunk). James provided the Cover Artwork for the previous Feather House release 'A Love to Heal' and you can find more of his paintings at www.instagram.com/jamesfjohnston

The songs 'Googly Eyed' and 'Googly Eyed (Part 2)' are lyrically inspired by the Film 'Everything Everywhere All at Once', which sees a father going round sticking googly eyes on various objects to help make his world look and feel better. He reminds the other characters, along with the viewer, to always try to be kind to themselves and each other. It’s a story about family and reconciliation...
#BeKind #GooglyEyesMakeTheWorldLookBetter

The song 'Kingfisher' is lyrically based on the halcyon kingfisher myth. A mythical bird said by ancient writers to breed in a nest floating at sea at the winter solstice, charming the wind and waves into calmness. Halcyon means “kingfisher” in Greek, and the phrase is founded on a charming myth, involving the marriage of Alcyone – daughter of Aeolus, the god of winds – and Ceyx, son of the morning star...

I’ve always found it strange and a little sad that all too often we leave telling people how we feel about them, and the impact that they’ve had on our lives, until they are no longer with us and have passed away. The song ‘Living Eulogy’ is a reminder to speak now or forever hold our peace. The song ends with a musical crescendo immediately followed by the entire track running backwards, like on a tape machine rewinding at high speed. This sound represents time rushing by and potentially running out, acting as a gentle nudge to tell those you love that you love them, before the opportunity is gone…

'The Pull & The Drag' deliberately has quite a disorientating sounding rhythm to it to try and emulate the pulling and dragging of ocean waves. I've always thought the emotions of the human heart are very similar to the sea, one moment controlled and calm, while in the next wild and erratic...
